When Is Recruitment?
Recruitment typically occurs during the first week of fall, winter, and occasionally spring quarters. Please check out our Become A Sister page for more details. Recruitment events are always free and do not require any type of registration.
How Does Recruitment work? Is There a Dress Code?
Recruitment consists of five free events at the beginning of the quarter. If you are interested in joining Sigma, you should attend as many events as possible so the sisterhood can get to know you. There is no dress code for the first few events – come in what you are comfortable in! Our last event is our Mocktails Soiree, and most girls wear a nice dress or slacks and a nice top.
I'm really busy. Do I have time for Sigma?
It's important to remember that Sigma is a major time commitment. We have weekly chapter meetings on Monday nights as well as various events through the week. We expect each sister to spend 5 hours a week participating in Sigma events, with more time for Executive Board members and less for Senior Status members. That being said, our sisters are all very involved on campus and serious students, and we work together to make sure everyone is able to attend our events.
Do I have to be Jewish to join Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi?
No. Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi does not discriminate against any identity or religion. No one in Sigma will ever try to convert you to Judaism. We hold our Jewish values close to our hearts, and our non-Jewish sisters even closer. We have never denied anyone a bid based on their religion. We pride ourselves on being a non-exclusive sorority.
I identify as Jewish, but I've never even been to Shabbat! Is Sigma right for me?
Absolutely! Our sisters come from a multitude of backgrounds, religious and otherwise. If you want to connect with the amazing Jewish community at UCLA, Sigma is a great way to do that! Our sisters frequently go to Jewish events on campus and participate in Jewish learning programs in addition to our internal Jewish life events.
What if I can't afford Sigma?
Sigma dues are considerably lower than other sororities, partly because every officer, even the National Board, volunteers their time. Our treasurer is dedicated to working with girls to create delayed payment plans if necessary, and in the past girls have held fundraisers to help pay their dues.
